Types of swords in fencing.

The three primary weapon types are foil, epee, and sabre (or saber).

A foil is long, narrow, and flexible mostly in the vertical direction, if you are holding it. Practice foils will have a rubber tip on the end, but competition (electric) foils will not – they will have a small spring-loaded metal tip that determines if you hit someone hard enough to score a touch. These tips are not sharp, and will not break the flesh. Foils are intended for stabbing, not slashing.

An epee is similar to a foil, but it is less flexible. It is also a stabbing weapon.

The sabre is a slashing weapon and can be easily identified by their larger bell guard that protects the fencer’s hand. Sabres are very flexible and can be whipped around quite easily.

Types of fencing

Most people think there are only one type of fencing matches. However, there are 3 types of fencing matches, both with different styles and rules.

The first style of fencing match is called epee. Eppe is allowed to hit anywhere in the body starting at the toe to the head. So the players are very careful of themselves, and the sword is very heavy than other two type of fencing. This match doesn’t end very fast because both players are very cautious with them selves.

The second type of match is called Sabre. Sabre is allowed to hit only your upper body. However, you dont actually need to poke the player, but you could win with just only the light touch on other players body. So eventually, this sword is very light and easy to swing around. However, if the both players hit the opponent at the same time, then they both raise up point when other two type of fencing match doesn’t and starts all over.

The Third type of Fencing match is called Foil. FOil is only allowed to hit the hip to your neck. You can’t hit the arms of the opponent and only the score counts if they hit the box of the body. This type of fencing is what I plays and which which requires a lot of focus on how to poke the opponent.

Facts about fencing

I played fencing for more than a year from now, and what I felt towards fencing is very different from the ordinary people who didn’t play fencing. Many people think fencing doesn’t require much energy, you might die playing fencing, and much more. And I will give my responses what I felt playing fencing.

When I tries to play fencing at the first time, I thought this wouldn’t require much energy, so I didn’t warm up and didn’t care a lot. However, as I played with the teacher along, I thought this required more energy than playing basket-ball. The move for going back and forth constantly trying to attack and fool the player is not an easy job. And so I thought experience is the number 1 importance in fencing. There are numerous ways to attack a player with difference steps, fakes, and the angle of the sword when attacking. Also, for blocking, there are not that much blocking positions, but you need a lot of  focus if you are trying to block. These sources of fencing actually makes fencing hard as it can possibly be.

Many people think you might die because the mask could break, and sword might not flit and go straight into you chest, and much more. But the sword actually is very wiggly and hard to poke straight, however if you get hit hard, then in is real pain. I always had 4 or 5 bruises in one full match.

Semester 2 blog – About the winter break-

This winter break that I had was the worst break I ever had. First of all, I realized how hard the Korean students studied without complain to their parents. The reason I realized how had the Korean students studied is because I experienced the same situation as they did. At 8AM, I arrived in the Academy, took a practice test for 4 hours. When finished, I went up a floor and left my bag and started to listen to the lecture. After 2 hours of the lecture, we have 15 minutes break to eat lunch. The time was 2 o’clock and I was really hungry. After i ate Kimbab within 15 minutes, I went back again and started to study and listen to the lecture. I thought this place was like hell, but others didn’t actually care and was really focused on the teacher. After 3 more hours of the lecture, the academy finally finished at 6 o’clock. And I repeated this schedule for 5 days a week. After a week of this life cycle in the academy, I continued to lose emotion and feelings and I automatically fitted with the others and I was able to manage the 12 hours of lecture and tests. However, I felt I was changing, and I still feel it right now

About Beethoven, Piano Concderto No.5 Eb major Op.73 “Emperor”

One day, I wanted to have some information about Beethoven and his lifetime, and I read one article about “Emperor” which was Beethoven’s one of the best creation.

Before the was happened in 1809 where Napoleon started to conquer Austria, and where Beethoven lived. His city became conquered in 10 days with massive gun fights, bombs, and because of that he almost became deaf. However, he created some songs which were contained larger scale of music, more different kinds of emotion, and with great composing. He had created a masterpiece within his feeling towards the war. These are the songs that he had created and you can listen to the songs for free if you click the links below.

Ist, Allegro.

Description: This song shows big emotion during the fight and the sounds are so powerful that I can imagine being in the middle of the fight with both marching mighty, and also the soft parts of this music contains the rest and calmness without the war.

2nd, Adagio un poco mosso

Description: This song is what Beethoven made after the war, how peaceful and calm it is, and how dreadful the war was. And also the peace and happiness for all of the citizens who were in the town. I think this song is the best in within this album.

3rd, Rondo Allegro

Description: This is a song where Beethoven celebrates that the war has been finished. The music bounces with joy and with an happy end.
